USA Spring Trip Part 3

More pictures!

We went white water rafting without a guide!!! I had thought it’ll be easy since I’ve done class 3 and 4 with a guide. But it wasn’t! It was in early spring and the ice waters were melting so the water was icy cold and rough! I had lots of arm exercise that day and my aunt was terrified we wouldn’t make it down river in one piece. But we did! And I’m really glad I did it cause it was a totally adrenaline pumped experience. I even swam in the icy cold river without feeling cold because I was so high on adrenaline.

The view on the way up the mountains. It’s spectacular. Autumn is still my favorite season for mountain trips but spring doesn’t let me down either.

Hiking in the cold cold weather. It’s supposed to be spring but we had abnormal winter weather in some parts. All credits to global warming.

In the town of Helen which is like a swiss village in the alps!

At a different log cabin… warming myself up next to the fire.

Very tacky picture but I was doing morning stretches!

Was at the start of the famous Appalachians trail. Of course I didn’t hike all the way across mountains… would have taken days camping in the wild with the bears! I would like to do that but only if I have an experience guide! So instead I hiked up the highest waterfall on the eastern seaboard of the US instead!

The Amicolola Falls is a beauty and worth every step I took to get to the top.

This is taken at the lodge at the top of the mountain. The view is beautiful and people come here to get married!

I don’t ever miss horse riding in most of my trips. I love riding horses so much it’s a pity I didn’t grow up in a ranch! We took the horses on a day ride through rivers and lakes.

Ever seen a horse scratch himself… hee

Callaway Gardens. 14,000 amazing acres of beauty. If you are a flower lover than this is a must see destination. President Roosevelt had polio so he spent most of his time here in his little white house… enjoying the gardens and the hot spring waters. If you attend Sunday service in the church at one of the nearby towns you’ll get to meet President Jimmy Carter who would be more than happy to sign you an autograph if you attend his Sunday class.!!

The butterfly aviary had so many live butterflies of various colors. I’ve never seen that many in my life! They even had species brought in from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia!

Stop by the US military cemetery to pay my respects to Grandpa Hicks. He died 2 years ago… 3 month after I was there to celebrate Christmas with him. He was a brilliant man that served in the navy in WW2 and later worked at NASA on the Apollo projects. He may have been cranky in his old age but he was dearly missed and I regret not being able to attend his grand state funeral at that time. My sister was present on my family’s behalf.

There are probably a couple more places I visited but took no pictures as the trip was mainly recorded in video. Also, this trip was mostly outdoor and activity based so it was in convenient to bring electronics with us unless we were prepared to risk damaging them. But for my friends that would like to see more… you can view the videos when you come over my place to visit ya?

USA Spring Trip Part 2

I know I was supposed to have done this up a long time ago and in detail! But as much as I love keeping contact with my friends and blog readers through my posts I really haven’t had enough time. I’m a total procrastinator. All my free time seems to get wasted away so easily!

Just to show you a small sample of the things I owe myself and the people around me.

- I need to get my aunt’s legal paperwork and letters done up.
- I need to arrange time to bring my grandma and grandpa over. They have been wanting to visit since I came back.
- I need to get all the US videos edited so I can send them out.
- I need to burn out Louis’ DVD for my friends.
- I need to buy a pink dress for my friend’s wedding! I’m her jie mei!
- I need to get together with my other gal pals to arrange the hen’s night.
- I need to really get my act together to clean out the boxes of clothes in the guest room so I can buy new furniture!
- I need to sort out my piles of bills into their respective folders.
- I need to get my camera repaired.
- I need to get to the dry cleaners.

And there is more! But I dun want to write down the entire never ending list simply because the to-do list would freak me out!

So instead of the blow by blow version of my US trips with pictures and videos… I’m just gonna do the cliff notes version and post the very few pictures I have for my back to nature 3 weeks trip. Some of you have already seen these pictures. And for those that haven’t… enjoy.

Me at New York Times Square! Had lunch at the nearby Applebee’s Restaurant and then spent the whole day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Candid picture of me at the beach in Florida, facing the Atlantic Ocean at St Patrick’s Air Base.

Here with Uncle Tom and Auntie Margaret.

I’m at the Kennedy Space Center. I’ve always seen it in Nat Geo and Discovery channel so it was pretty amazing being able to tour the rockets and facilities first hand. If you look closely you can see launch site B behind me.

This huge building behind me is only one storey! And thats where they modify the rocket after it’s assembled. The flag on the building is the biggest painted flag in the world and the width of one star on that flag is the size of a NBA basketball court! Grandpa Hicks used to work here on the rockets. He was the head engineer for the Apollo missions.

This is taken at Savannah, Georgia. It’s one of the oldest towns in the united states. Very southern feel. The streets are still made up of cobble stones and here you can still see traditional sweets and taffies all made the good old fashion way.

One of the cabins we stayed at in the woods. It may not look much but it can withstand really strong winds!

The fireplace inside the cabin.

I took the loft room while my aunt and uncle had the main bedroom.

My bed!

The view of outside from the loft.

Even the toilets are so nicely made up in country theme.

We had a jacuzzi in the deck. Imagine being in that warm bubbly water with the woods all around.

And BBQ dinner afterwards!

This cabin even had a game room in the basement.

Odd Me

Realized I got tagged when I read my God-daughter’s blog… so I shall play by the rules…

Rules of the game:-
Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself. People who got tagged must write it in their own blog and state this rule clearly. At the end of the game, list down 6 people to be tagged and NO
TAGBACKS!!

    HERE IT GOES

1. I can’t take alcohol. Nowadays my limit is one glass of mild cocktail…before I get all red and high. When I was in secondary school I gotten high on alcoholic ice-cream!

2. I can ice skate but I can’t roller blade! I will try to learn soon though!

3. I dream about having a second dog though I’m not sure if I can handle 2 dogs.

4. My favorite cuisine is North Indian cuisine but I rarely get to eat it.

5. I love receiving and writing snail mails even though I email all the time!

6. I’m anemic (less red blood cells than the normal person) so I do try to avoid crowds as I’ll faint!

7. I learn how to swim when I was 4 months old and I could unaided swim breath wise across the Olympic sized pool when I turned 2. Unfortunately I never really swim anymore.

8. When I was 14 I was dared into jumping into a quarry filled with water at Ubin off a cliff about 6 stories high. And I did! It was really something so reckless only my youth could have masked the danger.

9. I have always wanted to learn ballroom dancing but never found the right partner.

10. When I was about 4 my mum took me shopping at the old metro at Far East Plaza basement. She would leave me at the toys department while she shopped. This one time… they had a road safety show for kids going on. Thet asked questions and invited kids to answer them in return for a cute traffic light piggy bank and a stuff toy.

This question was posed : ” Can anyone of you know what the colors on the traffic light represent?”

I proudly raised my hand. Most of the people there must have been shocked to see a tiny 4 year old bravely strut on stage.

The mike was put to me and I answered ” Red stands for Stop. Green stands for Go.”
The lady was very impressed then she asked: “do you know what amber stands for? “
I nodded and answered: ” Yellow stands for GO FASTER!”

Of course the lady was totally shocked and everyone laughed. Naive me didn’t get the joke.

The pretty lady looked at me kindly and asked: ” Who told you that about amber?”
And my reply: ” That’s what my dad told me.”

She looked around for my parents but when she couldn’t see any… she patted my head and gave me the prize. There was a round of applause as I left the stage. Then I saw my mum hiding behind the shelves. She gestured me over and promptly scooted me out of Metro. Later that night my parents gave me a pep talk and for the first time I learned what a politically correct answer is.

The victims..!!

1. Eddie
2. Shannon
3. Fries
4. Janice (actually Audrey also tagged you.)
5. dee dee (my ex-secret santa)
6. Bernice (a reason to update your blog!)
