Louis gave me quite a scare these last 2 days. He was having diarrhea which was bad but I had assumed he was just detoxifying. Unfortunately… it escalated in 24 hours and I was soon having to clean up almost every half hour. The poop also became less of poop and more of blood and blood clots. I was in total panic with no idea what to do in the middle of the night other than to vigilantly watch over him. It pained me to see his uncomfortable look whenever he had to go and he looked so guilty for making a mess even though it really isn’t his fault he is sick.
By morning I called the vet to make an appointment. I was told to bring him in the afternoon. They did some test and analyzed his stool/blood. He was a brave boy as how he always is without flinching much or even making any sound when he had to be jabbed. The most painful one should be the enemas cause he actually whined and whimpered in pain for quite sometime which is totally out of character for him. My heart broke just having to watch him.
I was told that it was a serious bacteria infection he had gotten from contaminated bird/lizard droppings. The doctor said if all goes well he should recover in a week though it will be a rather exhausting and stressful week for him. He was given jabs… drips and a whole ton of medication but I’m glad to report he definitely looks a whole lot better.
Thanks to YL for rushing down to the hospital to see Louis and I’m really sorry you had such a hard time contacting me… I truly was too distressed then to realize I didn’t have my phone with me. And to Lerelyn for being so sweet and cooking fish porridge for Louis to make his medication easier to bear. And to my friends and family that sent their love and blessings and requests to come visit him. He’ll be so happy to know that he’s so well loved.
The one thing that touched me the most was how he was in total pain but was still worried that he had done something wrong by making me clean up after him all the time… when I left him at the hospital… he looked at me with a face that was totally crest-fallen… he probably thought I was going to abandon him for having messed up. Sighs… how can I not love him even more.
Here are some pictures of my dogs in recent happier times when Louis was still healthy and I’d bring them for walks and picnics at the park.

And in consistent with my outfit postings… this is another outfit that I wore when I was out with the dogs for lunch. I love my pink ballerina crocs when I’m with my dogs.
