Here we all are… heading to Harajuku 原宿 . Street fashion capital in Tokyo. We were all geared up for a day of shopping and so not much pictures were taken at Harajuku itself! Most of the pictures were taken while we were on the train bound for Harajuku 原宿 station. I guess it’s also because Clara wanted to test out her new Lumix camera.

If you head to Harajuku 原宿 on a Sunday, you’ll see a lot of cosplayers in the area. My sister absolutely adores this place. We headed straight for Takeshita Street 竹下通り once we arrived.  Takeshita Street 竹下通り is located right in front of the JR Harajuku Station 原宿駅 and is impossible to miss!

In this extremely crowded streets you can find many independent stores selling everything from socks, lingerie,  accessories, street fashion, cosplay costumes and all the cutest stuff. School kids flock to this area after school ends to do their shopping as well. The shops in this area sometimes operate as a bellwether for up and coming street fashion with some of the stores selling prototype goods and outfits. It sends a buzz of excitement to be right in the middle of a area of trend-starters.

In the candid photos above you can see sushi’s glamourous bun with the lovely structured bow as well as a close up of Koji’s gorgeous braids. All of which are Ms Clara’s handiwork.

We had our lunch in one of the underground pasta cafes along the street. Lots of youth make up the general crowd. In fact we had a Jack Sparrow look-a-like just 2 tables away!

Looks good? Well it was pretty yummy! Definitely nicer than pasta mania.

As usual, I don’t blog about my shopping buys. But here is one exception… my new rain boots with glitter inlays ( so that it looks less fish monger style) which served me well when I head up to Fuji Mountain. One of my most practical buys and it wasn’t even very costly… less then ¥3000 if I remember right.

Enjoy the video that was taken with the new pink video cam I bought from Akihabara. Definitely not as good a quality as my professional sony one but it’s perfect for the small purse.

This movie gets a five star from me! It’s the sort of movies both guys and chicks would enjoy and relate to. I’ve always viewed Will Smith as a action flick sorta guy but he really nailed the emotional scenes in this movie. I guess that why he got nominated for best actor.

The movie is based on a true story which gets plus points from me. The film casts Hollywood mega star Will Smith as Chris Gardner, a single father who went through a period of homelessness in the early ’80s after switching careers from medical-supply salesman to stockbroker. Will looks terrible in the show to keep in sync with the role. Smith’s own son Jaden was cast as Gardner’s five-year-old boy Christopher, who sleeps alongside his father in various shelters and even a public restroom during their time on the streets. Jaden is very cute and charismatic…. I think we are gonna be seeing a new fresh prince in the near future.

What really captures me in this show is the upward struggle to survive in reality. We may not be in the same situation as him but we can still relate to the episodes in his life. Like when his boss borrows 5 bucks from him when he hasn’t have any left to spare or like when he has to lug that heavy bone density scanners around.

Go catch this! You won’t regret!

Eragon

I’ve heard about Eragon when I was in Australia about 2 years back when it was on the bestselling list for children books.

The overview of this movie is simple – Eragon (newcomer Edward Speleers), a teen farm boy in the land of Alagaësia, who, with the help of his trusty dragon, becomes a fierce warrior. On the whole I found the movie average. The visual effects were good and the movie has a very potent cast. Jeremy Irons acts as Brom; Robert Carlyle as Durza; Djimon Hounsou as Ajihad; John Malkovich as Galbatorix and Rachel Weisz, who provides the voice of the CGI-generated dragon, Saphira.

However, the movie lacks originality in both it’s plot and in the creation of this fantasy world. It has too many similar elements to LOTR… where you have Aragorn instead of Eragon. The only gripping scene was the final battle between Eragon and Saphira vs Durza and his demon. Maybe its due to the fact that I had high hopes for this movie so I can’t except that there wasn’t more to it. It almost seemed as if this movie was nothing but a lengthy trailer for Eragon 2.

If I have the time I might want to read the series for myself and catch up on the missing pieces that the movie obviously left out… I do hope it’ll be a lot better.

Happy Feet

I did a review on Happy Feet which got deleted as well… so here goes…

I caught Happy Feet recently and it got a thumbs up from me. I give it an A+ so if you haven’t watched it go book a ticket now! It’ll definitely but a smile on your face… laughter in your belly and a song in your heart.

Despite it’s serious undertones and solid social messages it sends out in regards to wildlife and conservation, it still manages to be entertainingly funny and cute. The music is well selected, catchy and vibrant. Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman and even Robin Williams do the voice over and singing for their respective characters. I’m not surprised but Nicole Kidman’s (Norma Jean) strong vocals as she has proven to be quite a songstress in previous movies such as Moulin Rouge. However, I had no idea Brittany Murphy (Gloria) could sing so well! Robin Willams was the voice of both Ramone and Loveless which were one of the cheekiest and funniest characters! I’m definitely getting the soundtrack!

In fact, I’ve got Happy Feet as my wallpaper now and if you wanna have a copy just click the thumbnail below to open and save!
